On the fourth-generation (DS) Ram 1500 the headlight bulb is technically a rear-access job, but the factory left almost no room behind either housing. The battery and washer reservoir block the driver's side and the air cleaner box blocks the passenger side, so most owners end up removing the two or three 10 mm bolts and pulling the whole headlamp assembly forward a few inches. That takes five extra minutes and turns a knuckle-shredding job into an easy one.
The main thing people get wrong is buying the wrong bulb. Base and mid trims use one dual-filament H13 (9008) bulb per side for both low and high beam, so a burned-out low beam on those trucks still has a working high beam. Quad-projector Laramie and Longhorn trucks have a separate low-beam bulb, and some Laramie Limited models have factory bi-xenon HID with D3S bulbs and a ballast. Look at the old bulb base before you order anything.

Engine choice (4.7 V8, 5.7 Hemi, 3.6 Pentastar, 3.0 EcoDiesel) does not change the fastener sizes - all use 10 mm headlamp bolts. What varies is under-hood clearance: the 5.7 Hemi and 3.0 EcoDiesel have bulkier intake plumbing on the passenger side, making housing removal nearly mandatory, while the 3.6 Pentastar leaves slightly more room. Trim level, not engine, determines bulb type: H13/9008 on standard reflector lamps, H11 low beam with 9005 high beam on quad-projector trims, and D3S on factory HID.

Bolt heads on the DS headlamp are 10 mm on the great majority of trucks (a few use 8 mm or a Phillips screw at the inboard corner) - confirm your bulb type by looking at the base before buying, since standard trims use H13/9008 while quad-projector trims use H11 low beam and factory HID uses D3S.
Standard halogen trucks use a single H13 (also sold as 9008) dual-filament bulb per side that serves both low and high beam. Quad-projector Laramie and Longhorn trims use an H11 low beam with a separate 9005/HB3 high beam, and factory bi-xenon trucks use a D3S HID capsule.
Not always, but usually. Some owners can reach the rubber access cap from behind, especially on the driver's side after unbolting the battery. On most trucks it is faster to remove the two or three 10 mm bolts along the top and inboard edge and pull the housing forward.
No. The DS headlamp comes out with the grille in place once the 10 mm bolts are out and the rear locating pin is released by pulling straight forward. Leaving the grille on just means working the housing out at a slight angle.
They fit physically but the reflector housings are designed for a halogen filament, so LEDs scatter light and blind oncoming drivers while giving you less usable road light. Many also trigger a bulb-out warning from the TIPM and need a load resistor or CANbus-compatible driver.
