The mistakes people make are mechanical, not technical: forcing the blade off the hook and bending the arm, or letting a bare arm slam down onto the glass. How the job goes
Park the truck, turn the ignition off, and make sure the wipers are in the normal park position at the base of the windshield. If they are stopped mid-sweep, turn the key to accessory and cycle the wipers so they park.
Open the hood or turn the key to accessory and run the wipers to mid-glass so the blades clear the cowl trim, then switch off so they stay up.
Lift one wiper arm away from the glass until it locks in the upright service position. Lay a towel on the glass under it as insurance.
Find the J-hook connector where the arm curls into the blade. Press the plastic release tab on the blade with your thumb or a small flat screwdriver.
With the tab held in, slide the blade down the arm toward the windshield about an inch, then rotate and pull it off the hook. Do not yank sideways; the hook will bend.
Compare the old blade to the new one to confirm 22 in length and hook fitment, and transfer any adapter if the new blade came with one installed.
Push the new blade onto the hook until the tab clicks. Tug lightly on the blade to confirm it is locked; a blade that is not latched will fly off at speed.
Lower the arm gently onto the glass and repeat on the other side. Both sides take a 22 in blade.
Clean the windshield with glass cleaner, then wipe the new rubber edges with alcohol to remove factory residue.
Run the wipers with washer fluid through two or three cycles and check for streaking, chatter, or any contact between the two blades at the center of the sweep.
Watch out
Never let a bare wiper arm snap down onto the windshield. A steel arm on glass can chip or crack it.
Do not force the blade off the hook without pressing the release tab; you will bend the arm and the blade will not sit flat afterward.
If the passenger blade rides up onto the A-pillar trim or the two blades touch at the top of the sweep, you installed the wrong length or the arm has been repositioned on its spindle.
On cold mornings, free frozen blades from the ice before running the wipers or you can strip the wiper transmission gears or blow the fuse.
