This is the easiest maintenance item on the K2XX Silverado. The airbox sits on the driver's side, the lid hinges forward, and the filter is a flat panel that lifts straight out. Most trucks need no tools at all beyond fingers and maybe a screwdriver to pop stubborn spring clips.
The one thing people get wrong is seating the new filter. The rubber lip has to sit in the groove all the way around, especially at the corners near the hinge, or the lid will squash it out of place and let dirt past. Second most common mistake: blasting compressed air near the MAF sensor in the outlet duct, which can knock the hot-wire element out of calibration and set a code.

The 4.3 L V6, 5.3 L L83 and 6.2 L L86 all use the same airbox and the same panel filter (ACDelco A3145C), so no tool differences by engine. Only the duct clamp screw head varies by build date and supplier - slotted, 7 mm/8 mm hex, or Torx.

The airbox is clip-secured on essentially all 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 trims and takes the same filter across the 4.3, 5.3 and 6.2, but clamp screw heads vary (slotted, 7/8 mm hex or Torx), so check yours before buying a tool.
ACDelco A3145C is the OE-equivalent panel filter and fits the 4.3 V6, 5.3 L83 and 6.2 L86 in this generation. Common crossovers are Wix 49060, Fram CA11258 and K&N 33-5000 if you want a washable filter.
Usually not. The lid is held by spring clips you can pop by hand; a flat screwdriver helps if they're stiff, and a 7 mm or 8 mm nut driver lets you loosen the outlet duct clamp if the lid won't hinge far enough.
GM's oil-life and maintenance schedule calls for inspection at each oil change and replacement around 45,000 miles under normal use. If you run dirt roads, job sites or dusty farm use, plan on 15,000-20,000 miles.
The rubber sealing lip faces up and sits in the groove of the lower housing, with the pleats running across the box. Take a photo of the old filter before you remove it if you're unsure.
