On the 2014-2018 K2XX Silverado 1500 this is about as easy as a modern truck oil change gets. The drain plug is a 15 mm hex head in an aluminum pan, and the spin-on canister filter sits low on the front passenger side of the engine where a 76 mm cup wrench on a 3/8 in extension reaches it from below. Most trucks need nothing removed to get at either one, though some trims have a lower plastic air dam or splash shield held by 10 mm or 13 mm fasteners that is easier to drop out of the way.
The thing people get wrong is capacity. The 5.3L L83 and 6.2L L86 take 8 quarts with a new filter, not the 5 or 6 quarts most cars use, and the 4.3L LV3 V6 takes 6. Buy two jugs. The other miss is forgetting to reset the oil life monitor in the DIC, and using an oil that is not dexos1-approved, which matters on these AFM engines.

Tool sizes are the same across the 4.3L LV3, 5.3L L83 and 6.2L L86: 15 mm drain plug and the same PF63-family spin-on filter with a 76 mm cap wrench. Only the oil quantity differs - 6 quarts for the 4.3L V6, 8 quarts for both the 5.3L and 6.2L V8s.
| Oil pan drain plug | 18 ft-lb (25 Nm) |
| Spin-on oil filter | Hand tighten until gasket seats, then about 3/4 turn; verify in the service manual |
| Lower splash shield / air dam bolts | Snug only, about 89 in-lb (10 Nm); verify in the service manual |
The 15 mm drain plug, PF63-family spin-on filter and 76 mm cap wrench fit all K2XX 1500 engines, but double-check your exact filter part number and the capacity on the underhood/owner's manual label before buying oil.
8 quarts of dexos1 Gen2 5W-30 with a new filter. The 6.2L L86 is also 8 quarts; the 4.3L V6 is 6 quarts.
15 mm, and a 6-point socket on a 3/8 in drive ratchet is the safe choice. The pan is aluminum, so torque it to about 18 ft-lb (25 Nm) and no more.
A 76 mm / 14-flute cup-style cap wrench on a 3/8 in drive fits the AC Delco PF63 filter used on these trucks. A claw or strap wrench works as a backup if the filter was over-tightened at a quick-lube shop.
With the ignition on, scroll the DIC with the steering wheel buttons to Oil Life Remaining and hold the set/checkmark button until it reads 100%. If your truck lacks that menu, turn the key to Run with the engine off and fully press and release the accelerator three times within five seconds.
