This is about as easy as modern oil changes get. The K24 in the 4th-gen CR-V has a 17 mm drain plug on an aluminum pan and a conventional spin-on filter low on the front of the block, so you don't need to deal with a cartridge housing or an oil cooler. Most of the work is jacking the front end up high enough to get your shoulders under there.
The things people get wrong: reusing the aluminum crush washer (it seeps), gorilla-tightening the drain plug into the aluminum pan, and cranking the new filter down with the cap wrench so the next person needs a hammer and screwdriver. Also check that the old filter's gasket didn't stay behind on the block - that mistake empties the sump in under a minute. Finally, reset the maintenance minder, otherwise the oil life percentage keeps counting down from where the last change left it.

| Funnel Long-neck or flexible Pours new oil into the valve cover fill without spilling on the intake. | Required | shop |
| Torque wrench 3/8 in drive, 10-80 ft-lb range Sets drain plug torque so you don't strip the aluminum pan. | Required | shop |
| Nitrile gloves Used oil is a skin irritant and the drain area is hot. | Safety | shop |
| Engine oil 0W-20 full synthetic, API SN/SP; 5 US qt jug covers it Honda specifies 0W-20 for all 2012-2016 CR-V 2.4L. | Consumables | shop |

Every 2012-2016 CR-V sold in North America uses the 2.4L K24 four-cylinder (K24Z6 for 2012-2014, Earth Dreams K24W for 2015-2016), and the tooling is identical: 17 mm drain plug, 14 mm crush washer, 65 mm 14-flute filter cap wrench, 0W-20 oil. The only real difference is that 2015-2016 models more often have a full plastic lower undertray held by 10 mm bolts and Phillips screws.
| Oil pan drain plug (17 mm head) | 29 ft-lb (39 Nm) |
| Spin-on oil filter | Hand tighten 7/8 turn after gasket contact, about 17 ft-lb (23 Nm) |
| Lower splash shield bolts (10 mm) | About 7 ft-lb (9 Nm) - snug only, plastic threads |
The 17 mm drain plug, 14 mm crush washer, 65 mm 14-flute filter wrench and 29 ft-lb plug torque are correct for all 2012-2016 CR-V 2.4L; confirm exact oil capacity against the dipstick and your owner's manual, since the 2015-2016 Earth Dreams K24 can differ slightly from the 2012-2014 K24Z6.
About 4.2-4.4 US quarts (4.0-4.2 liters) with a new filter. Buy a 5-quart jug, add 4 quarts first, then top up to the upper dipstick mark.
A 17 mm socket, ideally 6-point on a 3/8 in drive. The sealing washer under it is a 14 mm aluminum crush washer, Honda part 94109-14000, and should be replaced every change.
A 65 mm, 14-flute cap-style wrench on a 3/8 in drive. The Honda 15400-PLM-A02 filter and its aftermarket equivalents all use that cap size, and a cap wrench is far easier than a strap wrench in that tight space.
Turn the ignition to ON without starting, use the SEL/RESET button on the steering wheel or dash to bring up the engine oil life display, hold the button about 10 seconds until it blinks, then hold again until it resets to 100%.
