The XA40 RAV4's U760E 6-speed automatic is a sealed unit: no dipstick, no top-side fill tube. You drain through a plug in the pan, pump new Toyota WS fluid in through a 24 mm plug on the side of the case, then set the level by letting the excess spill out of an internal standpipe while the engine idles and the fluid sits in a narrow temperature window. Mechanically it is simple; the fussy part is temperature and having the car dead level.
The mistake that bites people is draining first. Loosen the 24 mm fill plug before you touch the drain plug, because it is often installed tight with sealant and a stuck fill plug turns an afternoon job into a tow. The second mistake is skipping the temperature check and just putting back what came out - that gets you close, but the standpipe check is what actually sets the level, and on this transmission being a half quart off shows up as flare or harsh 1-2 shifts.

North American XA40 RAV4s all use the 2.5L 2AR-FE with the U760E automatic, so the plug sizes and procedure are the same for FWD and AWD. AWD models have more underbody shielding to remove and a transfer unit whose fluid is separate. Diesel and 2.0L versions sold outside North America use different transmissions (including a CVT) and do not follow this procedure.

The 24 mm fill plug and the hex-drive drain plug with internal overflow standpipe are correct for the U760E in this generation, but bit sizes (10 mm drain / 6 mm standpipe) and all torque values should be confirmed against the Toyota service information for your exact year before you tighten anything.
Expect about 3.5-4 quarts out through the drain plug and standpipe. Buy 5-6 quarts of Toyota ATF WS so you have enough for the overflow during the level set.
Not properly. The level check has to happen with the fluid at roughly 95-113 F, and the only reliable way to know that is reading the ATF temperature PID. A cheap Bluetooth dongle with an app that supports Toyota transmission data will do, but a plain code reader will not.
It is a 24 mm hex-head plug on the side of the transmission case, accessible from underneath once the lower splash shield is off. Loosen it before you drain anything.
Toyota lists the WS fluid as needing no regular service under normal use, and only specifies inspection or change under severe duty. Many owners still do a drain and fill every 40,000-60,000 miles, especially with towing or heavy stop-and-go use.
