On the gas 2.5L and 3.5L XV50 Camry this is about as simple as car work gets: pop the plastic cover off the battery at the left front of the engine bay, 10 mm on the two terminal clamps, 12 mm on the two hold-down nuts, lift and swap. The only mild annoyance is that the hold-down J-bolts sit deep beside the battery, so you need a socket extension rather than just a wrench.
The hybrid is a different job. Its 12V auxiliary battery is an AGM unit in the trunk behind the right-side trim panel, and it has a vent hose that routes gases outside the car. The thing people get wrong is either putting a cheap flooded battery in there or leaving that vent hose disconnected. Second most common mistake on all versions: overtightening the 10 mm terminal nuts and crushing the clamp.

Socket sizes are the same across the generation - 10 mm terminals, 12 mm hold-down. What differs is the battery: the 2.5L 2AR-FE takes a Group 35, the 3.5L 2GR-FE takes the physically larger Group 24F, and the Camry Hybrid uses a vented AGM auxiliary battery (Toyota S46B24R, sold in the US as a 51R-size AGM) mounted in the trunk, which adds trim removal and a vent hose to the job.
| Battery terminal clamp nuts (10 mm) | about 4 Nm (35 in-lb) - snug only, do not overtighten |
| Battery hold-down clamp nuts (12 mm) | verify in the service manual; snug so the battery cannot move, roughly 5-8 Nm |
| Hybrid trunk trim / bracket bolts (10 mm) | verify in the service manual |
The 10 mm terminal nuts, 12 mm hold-down nuts and the trunk location of the hybrid 12V battery are well established for the XV50; confirm your exact battery group size against the label on the old battery or the parts counter listing before buying, and check the hold-down torque in a factory manual if you want an exact number.
In the trunk, on the right-hand side behind the trunk side trim panel. You pull the trim back, remove the cover, then use 10 mm on the terminals and unclip the vent hose before lifting it out.
No. Toyota does not use battery management registration on the XV50, so no scan tool or dealer programming is required. You just reset the clock and radio, and the ECU relearns idle on its own.
Group 35 for the 2.5L four-cylinder, Group 24F for the 3.5L V6, and a vented AGM auxiliary battery (Toyota S46B24R / 51R-style AGM) for the hybrid. Always match the label on the battery you pull out.
Losing power resets the window motor limit learning. Hold each window switch in the up position for about a second after the glass reaches the top, then hold it down after it fully opens, and auto-up/down returns.
